What is a lace front wig? A lace wig, also called a lace "unit" or "hair system", is a lightweight wig that creates the illusion of hair growing directly from your scalp. This distinction makes a lace wig one of the most natural looking hair replacement solutions.

During lace wig construction, a fine lace material is used as the base and individual strands of hair are then hand tied onto the lace. The term 'full lace' means that the base cap is made fully of lace, while 'lace front' wigs have lace in front and different materials at the back of the cap. You may also purchase a 'lace frontal' hair piece that can be used with weaving wefts for the remaining portion of the hairstyle. The wefts are glued or sewn into your hair and the lace frontal applied only at the hairline.

There are typically two choices of lace materials used to make a base cap – Swiss and French lace. Swiss lace is very fine and delicate and is the more undetectable choice. Though French lace is not as undetectable, it is still a great choice for most clients because it is made of a more durable material.

Who wears these wigs? Some people wear lace wigs and frontals out of necessity. They wear them because of due to medical conditions (such as alopecia and chemo-therapy) that bring about hair loss. Others choose to wear lace wigs as a protective style to help nurture the growth of their natural hair. Yet others may choose lace wigs as their preferred hair fashion. Whatever the reason, lace wigs are becoming more popular as people are realizing their versatility, ease, and natural looking appearance. Lace wigs are an excellent choice for women of all ethnicities and with the affordable prices at ShopLaceWigs.com anyone can wear these wigs!

How do lace front wigs differ from "regular" wigs? The main advantage of the full lace wig over other styles is that the hair can be worn in up-dos, ponytails, and other styles that expose the nape area. Traditional wigs usually preclude these styling options. Lace wigs are also more lightweight and comfortable than traditional wigs.

What are the wig cap types and how are they different? There are a variety of wig cap options available. Three that are popular include: Full lace with ear-to-ear stretch, full lace with stretch over ear and full lace with no stretch.

Full lace with ear-to-ear stretch (across the top): Stretch lace at the crown across the head (ear to ear over the top). This is the typical cap construction for ShopLW.com stock lace wigs. This fit provides the most comfortable fit if your measurements are slightly off or change due to variations in the preparation of your hair underneath (ex: wrapping your own hair vs. cornrowing). Parting the hair down the middle will reveal a darker area where the stretch lace is positioned on the cap.

Full lace with stretch only over the ears: Full lace throughout with a small amount of stretch lace behind the ear. This type of cap design works well if your measurements are accurate and you have difficulty attaching your wig behind your ears. The elastic in this area provides a snug fit behind the ear even without adhesive. Hair may be parted down the middle; however wearing the hair in a high ponytail may reveal the stretch area behind the ear depending on the lace wig density.

Full lace with no stretch: Full lace throughout with no stretch lace – may have Swiss lace in the front and French lace crown to nape. This cap design works well only if your measurements are accurate. There are no stretch areas to forgive inaccurate measurements. This cap design provides the most styling options, as hair may be parted and worn in any manner.

What kind of hair is used? Lace wigs at ShopLaceWigs.com are made of 100% Indian Remy human hair. Hair is used from one donor and its cuticles are aligned in the same direction. This is important because if the cuticles are misaligned, you end up with unruly hair that is prone to excessive matting and tangling. Unlike most of the hair available in your local beauty supply stores - that are unusable after the first wash – our lace wigs are high-quality human hair. They are soft and natural and will save you money in the long run.

Can I apply the wig myself? There is normally a short learning curve for perfecting your application. However, you do not need to have the skills of a licensed cosmetologist to be able to apply your lace wig. We will provide you with the tools needed to perfect your application. We will eventually include basic lace wig application Instructions with each lace wig purchase. Of course, the best course of action is to seek out the services of a stylist who specializes in lace wig applications.

Can I wear lace wigs if I have a full head of hair? You can braid/cornrow, twist, wrap, or flatten hair to prepare for application. The main objective is to get your hair as flat as possible for the most natural look.

Are they undetectable? A good lace wig application will minimize the visibility of the lace wig foundation. Your admirers may not even believe you, if you told them that you were wearing a wig!

Can I wear different textures and colors than my own? You can go from a long & straight to short & curly. The choice is up to you.

How is the length measured and how do I know what length to buy? The length of our wigs is measured being the full length of the hair (root to tip). The length of layered hairstyles will be described based on the length of the hair before styling. Use measuring tape to measure from the crown of your head to where you want the hair to fall. If the hair of the wig is longer than what you desire, you can have it expertly cut by your stylist.

Do I have to use adhesives to wear my wig? No. The bobby pin method will work just fine. It really will depend on your circumstances and lifestyle. Some clients like to remove their wigs on a daily basis and find that pinning it down is convenient even though it allows for less styling options. Others may want to maximize the length of hold and their styling options by applying the wig on their full perimeter with adhesive. The best adhesive for you will depend on your body's chemistry.

Can I wear the wig behind my hairline? Yes, many of our clients do - especially ones with smaller foreheads who cannot afford the room to apply the wig in front of their natural hairline.

How long will my wig last? The life of your wig will depend on your use and care. If handled properly, it should last one year and for some clients lace wigs last even longer.

How long can I wear my wig at a time? Your extended wear will depend on what adhesives you use, your body chemistry and how your skin responds to the adhesives, and how frequently you wish to re-apply. We stress that it is important for you to be mindful of your hair and scalp condition underneath during extended wear. Most clients achieve a one-to-two week hold with the right adhesive, washing and nurturing their own hair in between applications. If you are bald or have significant hair loss, you are likely to achieve a much longer hold.

What density should I order and why does it matter? The density you order is really based on personal choice. Most women achieve a natural appearance with light to medium or medium density; however, your choice will depend on your styling preferences and individual profile.

Can I work out when wearing a lace wig? Yes, you can exercise in your wig if you apply with an adhesive that works with your body chemistry and can withstand this type of activity.

Can the hair be flat ironed or curled? The hair is 100% human hair that can withstand household styling tools such as curling irons and flat irons. You can wash, set, and style the wig as you would your own hair. But like your natural hair, the hair can get damaged with the misuse and overuse of products.

Can I have a style or color made that is not currently shown in your gallery? Yes, our catalog is being continually updated so not every available style is represented on the site. We offer customization at reasonable prices. Please send us (info@shopLW.com) your photos and detailed information on how you would like your wig made and we will provide you with a quote.

Can I dye the hair? The technical answer is yes, but we do not recommend any further processing of the hair if it has already been dyed and processed. Further, only experienced colorists should attempt to color the hair. Remember that although the hair is 100% human hair, it is just as prone to damage from excessive processing just as your own hair. We cannot and will not be responsible for the results.

Can I wear my lace front wig in a high ponytail? Yes, you can wear your wig in a high ponytail once you apply around your full perimeter with adhesives. You will need a cap construction that is made with lace around the perimeter.

Can I part my lace wig and where can lace wigs be parted? Lace wigs can be parted anywhere on the cap. If you are covering your hair, the trick is to have your parts look natural by either wearing a stocking or wig cap that is close to your skin's color. Some clients can even get a natural looking part without wearing a wig cap.
